Q&A

QFWhat is "Multi-cultural child-rearing?"

It is not limited to the child-rearing by foreigners in Japan. The concept of "multi-cultural" is difficult to define, however, when we use the word, we mean "the attitude of mutual acceptance." We would like to accept each other (including the differences in language, cultural, gender, generation, race, religion and ideological differences) and overcome discrimination and bias in order to comprehend the cultural diversity. In this homepage, multi-cultural child-rearing parents include foreigners who live in Japan, foreigners who married Japanese, Japanese who married foreigners, and foreigners who resided in Japan and earned Japanese citizenship. The number of foreigners who registered as foreigners has increased. There are more international marriages than ever before, and the second and third generation is changing. Therefore, it has become increasingly difficult to classify them Japanese or foreigners, and it is not unusual for a family to consist of different nationalities. Considering the aforementioned circumstances, we named the title of this report "Multi-cultural child-rearing," to express the reality more clearly that goes beyond "the child-rearing and education by foreigners in Japan." After we have presented the word and definition, gmulti-cultural child child-rearingh on our research report in 2001, it has been firmly fixed on gmulti-cultural child-rearingh related support sites, lectures, and events.
